Haaland\’s Double Leads Norway to Historic World Cup Win

Erling Haaland found the net twice in the final minutes. Norway shocked Brazil 2-1 in the World Cup round of 16. This marked Norway’s first-ever quarter-final appearance.

Brazil started strongly and secured a penalty after 13 minutes. Kristoffer Ajer bumped Matheus Cunha inside the box. Bruno Guimaraes missed the spot as Orjan Nyland saved the shot.

However, Norway’s breakthrough came in the 79th minute. Stale Solbakken made key second-half changes. Andreas Schjelderup’s cross set up Haaland’s header. He beat the Brazilian defense with a towering strike.

Eleven minutes later, Schjelderup assisted again. Haaland fired a powerful long-range goal. This doubled Norway’s lead and sealed their historic win.

After the match, Solbakken commended his team for believing in an upset. Haaland thanked his focus and confidence. He now has 14 straight goals in competitions. He tied with Mbappe and Messi for seven tournament goals.

Brazil’s loss ended their World Cup run earlier than expected. Their last title was in 2002. Marquinhos accepted blame for the poor campaign. Neymar cried after the game.

Norway now faces England or Mexico in the quarter-finals. The Scandinavian team continues its surprising success. Haaland’s performance keeps him in the Golden Boot race.
