Cargo Plane Crashes in Arabian Sea After Losing Contact
A cargo plane flying from Sharjah to Karachi may have crashed into the Arabian Sea after losing contact with air traffic control. This has triggered a major search and rescue operation involving several military and maritime agencies.
According to the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), the K-2 Airways Boeing 737 cargo plane lost communication with air traffic controllers at around 9:21 pm Pakistan Standard Time. Officials say the aircraft likely went down near Ormara, about 300 kilometers from Karachi.
The flight had five crew members, including Captain Rizwan Idrees and First Officer Faisal Mahmood. There were no passengers on board. Officials have not yet confirmed the crew\’s fate, and rescue teams are still searching for survivors or wreckage.
The PAA stated the flight reported a technical issue with its navigation system before losing communication. Air traffic controllers immediately guided the pilots, but the aircraft began losing altitude rapidly. Officials noted the plane made a sudden turn just before contact was lost.
After the incident, the Rescue Coordination Centre launched a joint mission with the Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Air Force, and other maritime agencies. The naval warship PNS Zulfiqar was sent to the suspected crash site. Meanwhile, a Pakistan Air Force Saab aircraft from Bholari Airbase is conducting the aerial search.
A Pakistan Navy ATR aircraft from Turbat has joined the operation. Additionally, the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation oil tanker MT Lahore has been diverted to aid the maritime search.
Authorities say the investigation will start once the aircraft is found. Officials urge the public to rely on verified information as rescue teams continue efforts to determine the aircraft\’s fate and locate the missing crew.
