Zverev Climbs to No. 2 in ATP Rankings After Wimbledon Final Loss to Sinner

Alexander Zverev has climbed to the second spot in the latest ATP rankings released on Monday, trailing only Jannik Sinner, who defeated the German in the Wimbledon final. The 29-year-old German advanced one position, pushing Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz down to third.

Sinner, 24, held onto his Wimbledon title on the London grass in a thrilling four-set match against Zverev. The scoreline read 6-7 (7/9), 7-6 (7/2), 6-3, 6-4. Zverev had recently secured his first Grand Slam crown at the French Open, adding to the intensity of their rivalry.

Meanwhile, Alcaraz, who reached last year’s Wimbledon final, missed this year’s tournament due to a wrist injury. The setback also kept him out of the French Open. Despite the absence, his third-place ranking reflects his strong performance in previous months.

Veteran Novak Djokovic, 39, rose one spot to seventh in the rankings after falling to Sinner in the Wimbledon semi-finals. The Serb’s climb highlights his continued competitiveness at the highest level.

British wildcard Arthur Fery made a dramatic jump, climbing 78 places from 114th to 36th. His run to the semi-finals, where he lost to Zverev, earned him a historic ranking boost. “It’s going to change things, for sure,” Fery, 24, said. “I’ll be able to play Tour events for at least a full year. It’ll be interesting to see how I handle that shift and the pressure that comes with it.”

In the women’s game, Czech Linda Noskova entered the WTA Top 10 after winning her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon. The 21-year-old surged five places to a career-high seventh, edging out compatriot Karolina Muchova, whom she defeated in the final on Saturday. Noskova’s 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 victory showcased her resilience, recovering from wasting five match points in the second set.

Aryna Sabalenka stayed at world No. 1 despite exiting Wimbledon in the last 16 to Japan’s Naomi Osaka. Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina dropped to second after falling in the third round to Belgium’s Elise Mertens. American Jessica Pegula moved up one spot to third, while Coco Gauff jumped three places to fourth after reaching the semi-finals in London.
